Shop or field fabrication

Pressure vessels and reactors are typically shop-built in our facility, however, if circumstances require that they be built in the field, we can do that too.  All SFI welders are ASME certified.

Field fabricated spray dryer chambers

Spray drying chambers are typically field fabricated.  They are built on the ground in two sections (chamber and cone) and then set in structural steel by crane(s).  The materials, and many components, are formed in our shop for assembly in the field.

Most spray drying chambers are used for drying various food or chemical products.  It is common to see 2B or mill finish material with interior welds ground flush.  Whatever the need, SFI remains flexible to deliver results and exceed expectations.  We are experienced in areas such as

  • Stainless steel and other nickel based alloys available
  • Coordination and installation of explosion panels
  • Skirts and support lugs for installation in structural steel framework
  • Chambers for dairy service typically built per USDA standards
  • Design calculations based on pressure, temperature and seismic by in-house Engineers
  • Fabrication of equipment used with spray drying chambers
  • Other certifications and standards (ASME, API, UL-142, etc.)

In addition to fabricating new equipment, SFI also inspects and makes field modifications and repairs to existing equipment.
